Change of Date - Proms 2005 An error was made with the announcement of the date of our Proms concert on the website and in the Christmas Concert programme. The date was published as June 11th but it is actually a week later on Saturday 18th June 2005. We are still pleased to
be host to one of the greatest Euphonium players in the World, Steven Mead.
Steven will be joining the band to entertain the crowds in the Roses Theatre
in Tewkesbury before jetting off the following day to Austria to perform
again that evening! Get your tickets early so you don't miss out!
Tickets will be available shortly
from the Roses Theatre Box Office on 01684 295074. Sorry - we can't help
being simple! |
Contest Concentration!
This year the Band will be taking
some direction from Steve Sykes on both the Butlins and Area test pieces. Four
extra rehearsals have been organised in order to help the Band develop beyond
our wildest dreams!! - well that's the plan anyway! We will of course continue
to be directed in regular rehearsals and on the day(s) by our own musical
director, Nigel Morgan. Details are on the
Diary page.
Training Band
Training Band will restart on Sunday 9th January 2005. Due to the senior band's
Steve Sykes rehearsals the times will be changed to:
6:30pm - 7pm Beginner Band, 7pm - 8pm Intermediate Band. This will also apply on
Sunday 6th & 27th February and Sunday 6th March. There will be NO Training Band
on the weekends of 21st to 23rd January and 11th to 13th March as the senior
band is away playing at competitions in Skegness and Torquay. Sorry for the
changes but I look forward to seeing you on Sunday 9th!!

Welcome
Clive
We would like to welcome
Clive Miles who has stepped in to help us out on Solo Horn at the forthcoming
West of England Regional Contest in Torquay on Saturday 12 March. Clive plays
Solo Horn with the non-contesting Gloucestershire Constabulary Band and is a
good friend of the Band. We are pleased that he has offered to help us out for
the Area Contest and are enjoying listening to his sonorous horn playing in
practice.

We would like to congratulate Mr Nigel Morgan on becoming the longest serving Musical Director of the Band. At today's rehearsal, 2 February 2005, he reached the milestone of 7 years 225 days in charge of the Band. This surpasses the 7 years 223 days clocked up by Mr Robert Jenner during the 1980's. We would like to Thank him on behalf of the Band for his many hours of service to the Band and hope that there will be many more to come. Nigel has taken the Band from a small but committed group of 15 players when he joined the band on 22 June 1997 to a Fourth Section Champion Band in 2005. He has seen the Band develop a healthy support within Tewkesbury and Gloucestershire, so much so that the Band now holds two sell out Christmas Concerts in the Roses Theatre. He has taken the Band on tour to Germany on two occasions (1999 and 2002) and has been present for the Band's 25th and 30th Anniversary celebrations. He has also led the Band to much contest success during the 7 years 225 days to date, taking the Band up to the Third Section for the first time in its history in 2002. Sadly we were relegated to the Fourth Section once again from 1 January 2005. However, as can be seen below, Nigel's expert work with the conductor's baton (albeit the baton of the Training Band conductor) has meant that our sadness has soon turned to joy with our recent victory at the Butlins Mineworkers Open National Brass Band Festival!! |

We would like to congratulate John Jemmett on his appointment as Second Horn with the Championship Section band, Flowers. He has proved himself a committed player during his time with Tewkesbury Town Band and we wish him every success with his new horticultural friends! His consistent presence both at practices and engagements will be missed.....though we suspect he may still appear in our band room whenever he can (or maybe not after this picture!). Congratulations and Good Luck! |
